Volunteer Activities

THOSE THAT CAN, DO. THOSE THAT CAN DO MORE VOLUNTEER!

This fall, many volunteers were able to attend Volunteer Appreciation Lunches, pictured in the following photos. We are fortunate and grateful to have a broad mix of energy and expertise in our volunteer corps.

Keiba Crear (far left) contributes her expertise both as a member of the Library District Board of Trustees, as well as a member of the Library Foundation Board of Directors. Here, she welcomes the talented group of volunteers who work with at the West Charleston Branch. Also pictured here are Branch Manager Florence Jakus, Library Executive Director Jeanne Goodrich, Volunteer Program Coordinator Leslie Valdes and West Charleston Volunteer Coordinator, Dennis Avila Gil.

Doug Beckley (center, back row) is another Library Foundation Board Director. Here, he is pictured with some of the volunteers that work at the Clark County Branch, Branch Manager Jill Baxter, Volunteer Program Coordinator Leslie Valdes, and Clark County Volunteer Coordinator Lynn Nowakowski.

Over 50 volunteers attended the Appreciation Lunch at Sahara West - and that's only PART of the crew that donate time on a weekly basis to help out with the Library District's busiest branch and the Library Foundation's busiest bookstore! Foundation President, Tim Wong (3rd from the left on the back row) attended the luncheon to thank these volunteers for their civic commitment.

Jennifer Burns Lau was awarded Young People's Volunteer of the Year at Centennial Hills.

Iris Paraguirre was awarded Volunteer of the Year at the Sahara West Branch. Iris contributes 112 hours every month and manages the Sahara West Bookstore. This year she celebrated her 80th birthday.

Edgar Barron was awarded Volunteer of the Month for his help with the Young Adult section of the Las Vegas Branch library.

Susan Rock received the Volunteer of the Month award at the West Charleston Branch, where she is appreciated for her "take-charge" personality and outstanding organizational skills.

Volunteer-of-the-Month awardee Gale Shark (center) not only gives back to the community, she passes it on. Here she is pictured with her grandchildren who also help out at the Sunrise Branch Library.

Special thanks goes to "super" volunteer Lupe Rodriguez, pictured here as Neon, with Clifford the Big Red Dog at a special sale of children's books which was part of the 2010 Vegas Valley Book Festival's Children's Festival event.
